Seasonal binesiwag (migratory bird) hunting regulations and information.
In addition to general harvest regulations, the following provisions apply to treaty migratory bird hunting seasons. Migratory bird hunting regulations are established on an annual cycle and are available from your tribal conservation department or GLIFWC.
This page does not detail harvest regulations in their entirety. Additionally, your Tribe may have more restrictive regulations. Check with your Tribe for their full code of regulations.
Seasons:
Ducks, Mergansers, Coots and Galinule, Geese, Woodcock, Sora and Virginia Rails, Snipe, and Sandhill Crane: Open from September 1st to December 31st
Mourning Dove: Open from September 1st to November 29th.
Swans: Open from September 1st to December 31st, or until 50 trumpeter swans have been harvested.
Shooting Hours: 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset.
Ducks: Daily bag limit of 50. No Possession Limit.
Mergansers: Daily bag limit of 10. No Possession Limit.
Coots and Galinule: Daily bag limit of 20. No Possession Limit.
Geese: Daily bag limit of 20. No Possession Limit.
Woodcock: Daily bag limit of 10. No Possession Limit.
Sora and Virginia Rails: Daily bag limit of 20. Possession limit of 25.
Snipe: Daily bag limit of 16. No Possession Limit.
Mourning Dove: Daily bag limit of 15. No Possession Limit.
Sandhill Crane: Daily bag limit of 10. No Possession Limit.
Swans: Daily bag limit of 5. Possession limit of 5.
A member must possess a valid migratory bird hunting license to hunt migratory birds. Additional permits are required to hunt sandhill cranes and swans.
Any migratory bird left at a location, other than the harvester's abode, or with another person must have a tag attached with the hunter's address, number and species of bird(s), date(s) of harvest, and signed by the hunter.
All swans must be registered in-person at a tribal registration station or with a GLIFWC warden by presenting a fully feathered carcass within 48 hours of harvest.
All sandhill cranes must be registered by phone at 1-844-234-5439, online at glifwc.nagfa.net/online/, in the field by a GLIFWC warden, or in-person at a tribal registration station within 48 hours of harvest.
